To provide a source of imagination that never dries up—that, for me, is true beauty. A beautiful pattern is always receptive to the spirit of the viewer. One never tires of looking at it. [And writing about shibui—a concept of beauty]--shibui. . .is not a beauty displayed before the viewer by the creator; creation here means, rather making a piece that will lead the viewer to draw beauty out of it for himself.
