January 31st, 20221/31/2022 We're having a cold winter (for us, anyway): freeze warnings and deep freeze warnings and afternoons in the high 40s or low 50s. Soetsu Yangi on Japanese understanding of beauty: Why should pattern be so beautifu? . . . Pattern may be compared to a spring of water that can be drawn on eternally. [And writing about shibui—a concept of beauty]--shibui. . .is not a beauty displayed before the viewer by the creator; creation here means, rather making a piece that will lead the viewer to draw beauty out of it for himself. Still, here at the beginning, it's possible to hope that this year will be better than last.
