February 27th, 20202/27/2020 Yesterday, I saw the oncoming very edge of the storm that brought us rain (I got soaked) and behind it now is another wintery cold front: 40s at night, high 50s to low 60s during the next three or four days. Winter hangs on (and on and . . ..). But the trees are showing budding leaves with their yellow-green colors: beautiful and full of promise.

". . . do you have time to linger for just a little while . . . for the goldfinches that have gathered . . . for a musical battle, to see who can sing the highest note, or the lowest, or the most expressive of mirth, or the most tender? . . .they strive melodiously not for your sake and not for mine and not for the sake of winning but for sheer delight and gratitude-- believe us, they say, it is a serious thing just to be alive on this fresh morning in this broken world. I beg of you do not walk by without pausing to attend to this . . . It could mean something. It could mean everything. It could mean what Rilke meant, when he wrote: You must change your life." February 17th, 20202/17/2020 Highlands Hammock State Park Eric Ashford:
"Cypress 'knees' lap in the light . . . around ankle deep trunks . . . cypress root soak in the dark dank air." February 12th, 20202/12/2020 Hillsborough River Mary Oliver:
"I was sitting in the river . . . and all afternoon I listened to the voices of the river talking. Whenever the water struck the stone it had something to say, and the water itself, and even the mosses trailing under the water. And slowly, very slowly, it became clear to me what they were saying. Said the river: I am part of holiness. And I too, said the stone. And I too, whispered the moss beneath the water." February 07th, 20202/7/2020 Flight of the black skimmers " labels do not define the
under of Things, where people really live, and try to savor And care for those they love . . . Isn't that where all of Us live, or want to?" Bryan Doyle February 03rd, 20202/3/2020 I heard someone say "I like to photograph the things that everybody else walks past." I often aim at that too.
